Ruby Inn

If you're ever having a craving for egg rolls, this is THE place to go.

These open-ended rolls are filled to the brim with a delicious pork mixture that blackens to a delightful crisp on the ends when fried.

This last visit was the first time I ever ordered anything else off the menu. A simple dish of bright green bok choy and tender pork, yum. This probably won't be the last time I do that, but the trek will always be primarily for the egg rolls.

Ruby does take-out only and is tucked away in the strip mall with the Shoppers and Value Village on Bank and Walkley. They also do delivery but only after 5pm.

Have you ever been to the Golden Palace on Carling? How do they compare with their egg rolls? Maybe I have a new place to go now!

Hmm...I've seen those open ended egg rolls before at a Thai wedding reception...A pair of hotel pans full...

The bride's father told me where he ordered them, but I lost the name of the take-out in the ensuing celebration.

May have to make the trip out to see if these are they :)

The Golden Palace egg rolls are said to be the best. They are definitely amazing, they're huge and chock full of pork and very tastey. The only thing to me is that they seem a bit too big, and the last time I had them they were pretty much all meat inside.. hardly any other filler (carrot or celery or chop suey). The ones at Ruby Inn are just about perfect size so the "meatness" isn't as overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I love the Golden Palace, I've got family out of town that go there before leaving and buy up 3 or 4 dozen to take back.
