Ottawa versus

After my recent visit to San Francisco I felt the need to do a post on how lucky we are in Ottawa with our magnificent restaurant options. As someone who has dined in some pretty nice restaurants not only in San Francisco but also in New York city, Los Angeles, Chicago, Montreal and Toronto, I must say, we’ve got it made.

We are definitely way above average in terms of food, atmosphere and service in our city. I wanted to take this opportunity to list off some of our best eats, just as a reminder of how fortunate we Ottawans are. Here are my favourites:

Whalesbone Oyster House
Navarra
Murray Street Kitchen
Fuscian
Domus
Savana Café
Benny’s Bistro
Atelier
Sweetgrass Aboriginal Bistro
Beckta
Canvas
Black Cat
The Manx

Also the Urban Element, which is not a restaurant but offers the most amazing food experiences.

And of course, the ones I still want to try:

Fraser Café

Oz Kafé
Moonroom
Allium
Le Resto
Juniper (haven’t been in 8 years)
Zen Kitchen
Wellington Gastropub (went when they first opened but have to go again)
Bistro Cordon Bleu
Le Baccara

We ate at The Urban Pear at Second and Bank last night. My eyes are still rolled back in my head. It was AMAZING! I hope you will get to try this place too and add it to your 'tops' list for Ottawa.

I love your blog Rachelle. I actually think it is pretty much the best food blog in Ottawa. You are pretty classy with your writing and how you present the good and the bad.

Wow! that is so nice!! thanks so much for saying that! And of course! the Urban Pear! completely forgot about that one. it was on my list a while back and well, it just started getting so long. I'm adding it in!

I totally agree. I've been really satisfied with Ottawa's restaurants. I'd still like to find some good greasy pizza but everything else is great.

Rachelle, you have Allium on your 'must try' list. Go without delay! We went tonight and Mondays they only do Tapas. It was exquisite. I love it when a restaurant makes every little morsel to perfection. Allium will not disappoint.

oh my god, serious!? a guy at my work told me the same thing, he said I would die his meal was so good. that's it, it's got to be the next one I go to. But can i wait until Monday!? I adore tapas and would really like to go then... Thanks so much for the heads up!

Two words. Delayed gratification! Also, we stuffed ourselves, or so we thought, with 9 tapas dishes. One drink each and also dessert and coffee. Worked out to $65 each all in. I thought that was great considering the Omnivore's Supper Club charged $100 all in for their night at the restaurant. I can't imagine eating another $35 worth of food. I guess I won't be doing the Supper Club dinners.

I know it is not quite a 'restaurant' but add to your list Bridgehead and try out their new croissants that they launched today! Cheaper than a flight to Paris.

Bless you for your list. I keep coming back here to trigger my brain. Needed a lunch idea for Monday in Westboro'ish location. It was so obvious! Wellington Gastropub!

My favorite restaurant is Giovanni's in little Italy! We go there often and the service is lovely. They also have a great wine menu. I'd love to hear you blog about it :)

I'll have to add it to my list! I've got so many places I want to eat. I need to win the lottery!!

Gastropub did not disappoint. Just the one dish but good enough to want to go back.
